Robotic bug

For this week's assignment we are to come up with a concept for a robotic bug (as seen in the title). I wanted to do a dragonfly, so here are the top, bottom, and side view's of it. In the bottom corner is the "skeleton" I used to create the mechanical insect. I can picture it being some sort of communication bug.

Updated UVW Unwrap

There was some difficulty upwrapping my helmet, but I finally have it completed. It was tough to unwrap considering it's an organic shape, however I got through it!
This is the unwrapped final model

This is the UVW editor with the model unwrapped.

Low Poly vs. High Poly Helmet

Below are the high and low poly versions of my helmet. I started with a high poly model and then went over it to make it a low poly. It's a lot of fun!

This is just a render of the difference between the high and low poly.
For this week's homework, we were starting to unwrap our models. I chose to pick my helmet for my unwrapping so I will be able to throw on 2D textures on it. This is the first process of the unwrapping.
I basically just unfolded mapping and the next process would be beginning to stitch together the pieces correctly.

I threw on a checkboard procedural to show what areas would need to be fixed.

Week 2: External Light Fixture

For this week's assignment I wanted to create a fire pot that would be used outside of a temple for lighting. I was inspired to do different designs of the pot based on what character from God of War I chose to do to this week. I was most interested in doing a basic looking fire pot from Greece and pots that looked like they would belong in Hades or Medusa's world. Below I quickly sketched up some basic ideas and went along with what felt would work the best. In the end, I chose to do Medusa's theme. The design of the snakes will most likely be done differently, but as of right now this is my first iteration of the external light fixture.

The pot on left side I referenced.

I really like the how to the snake's on the columns wrap around which is what inspired me to do that for my model.
The top portion of the artwork is something similar of what may be done for my final iteration of my fire pot.

Week 2: Final Helmet

I fixed issues I had with the horns and picked a little bit at the helmet here and there. So this is my final helmet for the assignment.

Week 1: Helmet

This is my first modeling assignment in 3DS max in awhile. The first few drawings are conceptual art from the game God of War Ascension. I used different elements of characters body armor to come up with different shapes to make up the helmet. For the helmet, I wanted to use angles since there seems to be the style of the God of War franchise. The horns ended up being a little bit more organic looking than expected, but they turned out similiar to what I wanted. I was more inspired by the darker elements. I can see this helmet on the Wraiths or Sentries or any of the creatures that have horns.
